Launching the Appleton Estate Jamaica Independence Reserve, Jamaica’s premier wine and liquor estate, Appleton Estate Jamaica, celebrated 50 years of Jamaican independence. This golden rum is the world’s oldest barrel aged rum and the price for one of the 800 limited edition bottles is $4,520.
Gregory Levine, the Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum Brand Manager, has said, “The introduction of Appleton Estate 50-Year-Old Jamaica Rum marks a significant milestone for the rum industry, and Appleton Estate is very proud to introduce what is believed to be the world’s oldest rum.”
Continuing, Levine adds, “Appleton Estate has been creating fine handcrafted rums since 1749 in Jamaica’s Nassau Valley, and the historical launch of Appleton Estate 50-Year-Old Jamaica Rum demonstrates the unwavering commitment to extraordinary quality and masterful blending, yielding complex flavors that has placed Appleton at the pinnacle of rum making.”
Aging for nearly 50 years, Appleton Estate’s Independence Reserve consists of a unique blend of various rums, that is said to be blended by hand under the careful watch of Master Blender Owen Tulloch and Appleton Estate’s current Master Blender, Joy Spence. The liquor is silky smooth in taste, with notes of cinnamon, toasted oak, almond, maple, vanilla, and orange peel.
For this special edition rum, it is encased in a custom hand blown Glencairn Crystal Decanter that sits within a black lacquered gift box. The decanter is embellished with national Jamaican symbols, and is packaged with a commemorative booklet that tells of both the rum’s and the nation’s incredible journey to independence.
