Known as one of the most watched events, the Academy Awards, also celebrated as the Oscars, made its 85th mark this year of featuring the best hardworking individuals that have greatly contributed in motion pictures of the past year. Actors and directors collaborate to create memorable films for viewers; as each individual receives an award, the reputation of the recipient increases along with income. Every year the Oscars focuses on a specific aspect, and this year’s 2013 edition was centered on the contribution of music in movies. As all the Hollywood stars attended the black-tie gala, the night was filled with unforgettable highlights and, as always, stunning red carpet fashion.
Once the attendees were seated and champagne was poured, the spotlight was set on Seth MacFarlane as he took on the role of hosting this year’s Academy Awards. Some will debate his spot as host due to the lack of entertainment, along with the jokes and ridicule he executed during the event. Other forms of entertainment in the ceremony included a tribute to musicals by the cast of Les Miserables, Dreamgirls, and Chicago, as well as performances by Jennifer Hudson, Adele, Barbra Streisand, and more.
Actress turned musical singer, Anne Hathaway, not only performed in the Les Miserables number of the show but also took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in her breathtaking role of Fantine. The beaming starlet was thrilled to receive her second Oscar and 29th award for the film. Although Les Miserables was nominated for the Best Picture award, Argo won that Oscar and the cast was stoked to receive the award. Another highlight of the night was the winners for Best Actress and Actor in a leading role, who was Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook and Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln.
From all the ceremonies and galas that stars attend, the Oscars is famous for impeccable eveningwear gliding down the red carpet. Celebrity stylists select the best exclusive pieces from couture collections so their clients can out-shine other celebrities specifically for this night. Dazzling sequins and creamy pale gowns dominated this year’s red carpet, along with simple blacks and shades of reds. All attendees looked flawless and all dressed to impress, but as always fashion critics voted their best-dressed star. Voted as best dressed of the night was Jessica Chastain, who gleamed in her nude strapless Georgio Armani fulfilling Old Hollywood glamour. Other best-dressed candidates were Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen and Jennifer Lawrence Dior Haute Couture—both wearing pale nudes. Glimmering in sequins and metallic shades were Naomi Watts in Georgio Armani, Halle Berry in Versace, and Jennifer Hudson in Roberto Cavalli.
