Culture: Karl Lagerfeld designed a new wine label

Château Rauzan-Ségla, or Château Rausan-Ségla, is a winery in the Margaux appellation of the Bordeaux region of France.

The year 2011 celebrates Rauzan-Ségla’s 350th anniversary and the fabulous vintage 2009 bottle this year. To honour both events, Rauzan-Ségla is very pleased to unveil the label and capsule of the 2009 vintage. In discovering it, you will find that Karl Lagerfeld affixes his seal to Rauzan-Ségla’s history, written since 1661.

The winery Rauzan-Ségla is owned by the Wertheim family, who also own Chanel where Lagerfeld has been the chief designer. They bought the estate in 1994 and appointed John Klosasa, who previously worked for Chateau Latour, director. Since then the winery has upgraded the facilities and done a massive renovation. The 2009 series was very well received by wine critics.

Although Karl Lagerfeld was very satisfied with his design, the chief designers and printers of the winery had to make some changes of before the label could be approved. For the new label, Karl drew the famous chateau. Karl Lagerfeld ordered, although he never drinks alcohol, already a few boxes of wine.
