“The refusal of time -prologue” is an exposition made by the South African artist William Kentridge which takes place from 25 March and until 26 June 2011 in Le Laboratoire, Paris.
William Kentridge was usually known for his cartoon movies and his artistic struggle against the Appartheid.
For this exposition, which is the 12th experiment presented in Le Laboratoire, the artist collaborated with the American scientist Peter Galison who is a physics teacher in Harvard University. Both are questionning about the simultaneity of time in arts. They propose a reflection between physics, philosophy and poetry.
What is time? How can we measure it? Could we deny it? Of course, the great theories about the history of science are respected and true instruments of scientific measures are used in the exposition, in order to answer to these questions.
From a technical point of view, the artist uses big brown wrapping paper to draw on, and he proposes also a video which was directed with musicians and comedians in Johannesburg.
So, if you have time, come and think about it.
