Milan’s art season, like every year, begins with a coordinated start. Almost all major galleries – with very few exceptions – will be opening together, on September 15th at 6pm, for a full immersion that will end on Sunday at 7pm.
Among the many openings taking place, many have already jotted down in their agenda the video exhibition Play/Star taking place on the 17th at the Museo Pecci (Milan). Created by the same organizers as the general event, the exhibition will showcase videos by the artists represented by the Milanese galleries. To name just a few, Patrick Tuttofuoco, Christian Holstad, Eva Marisaldi, Mika Rottemberg, Aïda Ruilova and Vanessa Beecroft.
Gold is the protagonist of the show presented at the Nicoletta Rusconi gallery, Come le lucciole curated by Marco Tagliafierro. The exhibition, that hosts as many as 12 artists, revolves around the fascinating concept such as the metaphorical, alchemic and mystical value of gold.
The Francesca Minini gallery hosts the exhibition O, by Danish artist Simon Dybbroe Møller. Among the various works exhibited, the video The Drift arouses our curiosity: the artist represents his visions of the Grotta del Buontalenti within the Giardino di Boboli in Florence, accompanied by a voiceover listing all the merchandise on sale on Craigslist (an American website that sells second-hand products) on the day the artist had finished realizing the video.
Traces of surrealist photographic experimentation are visible in the exhibition by Talia Chetrit, Marking, hosted in the project room of the Kaufmann Repetto gallery. Displayed in the main space, a series of recent videos by Mexican artist Yoshua Okón.
The Istituto Svizzero di Roma (in the Milan premises), presents German artist Reto Pulfer, with an exhibition bearing a challenging title: Die Vertretung des Erschöpften, which means representing exhaustion.
Among the most-awaited openings, the first space outside the UK for London gallery Lisson. The space hosts a collective show created by Ryan Gander that gathers together some of the numerous names represented by the gallery, including Allora & Calzadilla, Gerard Byrne and Haroon Mirza, besides Jonathan Monk, Giulio Paolini, Lawrence Weiner, Art & Language, Cory Arcangel and Spencer Finch.
