Culture: The first art fair of Frieze New York

If you’re in New York and you enjoy some art, you should visit the art fair of Frieze New York.

The first edition of the Frieze New York contemporary art fair runs May 4-7 in Randall’s Island Park, which is a non-profit organization that works with the City of New York and local communities to provide an innovative and exciting destination through a wide range of sports venues, cultural events and environmental exploration. As the dedicated steward of Randall’s Island Park, the Alliance sustains, maintains, develops and programs the Park to support the wellbeing of all New Yorkers.

As well as 170 leading contemporary art galleries and the world’s major collectors, the usual art fair format is enlivened with a sculpture park and restaurants in the form of pop up outposts of Frankies Spuntino, Sant Ambroeus, Roberta’s pizza, Intelligentsia Coffee and The Standard hotel’s Biergarten food truck.

Frieze New York presents the most forward-thinking galleries from around the globe, bringing an international focus to the dynamic contemporary art scene in New York.
In addition to being able to see work by over 1,000 of the world’s leading artists, visitors can experience Frieze Projects, the fair’s program of artists’ commissions, and Frieze Talks, a program of debates, panel discussions and keynote lectures.
Frieze New York is housed in a bespoke temporary structure designed by New York-based SO-IL architects. Located in the unique setting of Randall’s Island Park, Manhattan, and overlooking the East River, the fair is easily accessible by public transport.
