Fashion: Time for a change

The Switzerland based manufacturer has been world renowned for over two hundred years for making the finest watches for the more blue blooded of us to accessorise with. A two hundred year pedigree has arrived at this point with the release of the “Hawk” collection. Its debut will feature two watches, the “Chrono Hawk” and the “Sea hawk”.

Athletes and active types demand a much more robust style of watch. It has to be able to resist a great deal of shock as the very nature of what they produces a great deal of wear and tear. This is why the Chrono Hawk features a leather strap reinforced with rubber, combining both beauty and sturdiness. As for the casing, it is made out of steel. Strengthening the steel meant making it thicker, which gives it a much larger profile. Aesthetically, it tends to lean more towards a simple elegance. Black and white colour scheme, honeycomb finish on the dial, and two smaller dials measuring the two halves of a minute are just some of the visual design choices put into this timepiece.  At times appearing as though it was inspired by the dashboard of a car.

While there are a plethora of design qualities with the Chrono Hawk, it does have some limitations. Those wishing to take the watch under the sea will find, much to their chagrin, that it cannot go too deep underwater. That is because it is not a dedicated diving watch.  The Sea hawk, however, is designed for scuba divers. In a nutshell, it contains many of the same features the Chrono Hawk does with some crucial additions. It is made to be a tad smaller so as to give it a less bulky feel for divers. And most important of all, the watch has been fitted to resist depths of up to 1000 meters, and also uses a helium valve to prevent any complications from decompression. Thus making this a great watch to have by your side, when wrestling sharks.

Girard-Perregaux is continuing the Swiss tradition of excellence in watch design. With two hundred years of experience behind them, it is no wonder people are eagerly anticipating there future works. Stay tuned as more is added to the Hawk collection.
