Fashion: Tommy Hilfiger celebrates Art Basel

Written by Alina Dyachenko

Tommy and Dee Hilfiger joined art aficionados in Miami for the opening day of Art Basel Miami Beach.  To celebrate the 11th edition of the prestigious annual art show, the Tommy Hilfiger creative team designed a 6 foot high, 25 foot long custom art piece reading “TH (hearts) Art” in the windows of the Tommy Hilfiger Miami Beach storefront.

The installation uses over 300 individually mounted paint cans in a rainbow of over 20 colors to create brand’s recurring “TH (hearts)” logo.  Poured resin molds were used to mimic the effect of spilling paint, giving the design its aqueous quality.  The custom design will be viewable to the public throughout Art Basel.

The Tommy Hilfiger Miami Beach location opened in December, 2008.  Situated in the heart of South Beach at 616 Collins Avenue, the architecturally distinct storefront is located in the city’s historic Art Deco district.  The interior reflects inspirations from both city and shore with tented macramé fitting rooms, vintage nickel shelving and a dramatic 14-foot cylindrical fish tank with exotic fish featured at the center of the store.  The South Beach store also has the unique addition of its back courtyard, a 700-square-foot surf shop replete with a mango tree and sculptured fountain.

The store houses a broad selection of Tommy Hilfiger sportswear, Hilfiger Denim and the recently added Tommy Hilfiger Kids collection.

Tommy Hilfiger has a long personal history with art.  He has explored many different art forms and artistic variations as a primary source of inspiration in his designs since establishing his namesake collection in 1985.  Tommy Hilfiger has always been an inclusive all-American brand and the Tommy Hilfiger Group has consistently looked for ways to engage the public in supporting all forms of artistic expression, from painting and photography to music and design.  The Group has participated in special projects and worked in collaboration with artists to raise awareness for the arts and generate funds to support various art platforms and non-profits.

There are over 1,100 Tommy Hilfiger stores in over 90 countries worldwide, including five global flagships opened on Fifth Avenue in New York, (September 2009); Champs-Élysées, Paris (November, 2010); Brompton Road, London (August, 2011); Omotesando, Tokyo (April 2012); and Regent Street, London (November 2012).  Additional stores are located in Amsterdam, Beijing, Berlin, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Cannes, Cologne, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Florence, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, Luxembourg, Madrid, Mexico City, Miami, Montréal, Moscow, Mumbai, Munich, New York, Osaka, Panama City, Santiago, São Paulo, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, Vancouver, Vienna, and Zurich.
