Gourmet: Jezebels Clandestine Dining

Jezebels clandestine dining is the creation of Chef Kathleen Engelhardt. She regularly organizes events; frequently changing location and menus. She defines Jezebel’s dining experience as “Hidden adventures for intrepid gastronomes, curious culinarians, and hungry rogues.”

It´s style is new world exploratory fusion, mainly centred on Caribbean, Cuban, American and Asian style dishes. Kathleen describes the supper club as “A prelude to an actual wine bar I plan to open later this year. I will experiment with different plates and wine combinations to find the perfect matches. Obviously the best will make it to the actual wine bar.”

The idea behind Jezebels is to experiment with her culinary abilities and ideas on supper club guests before taking the best and more promising idea to her wine bar. “It will showcase the gastronomic diamonds I come across to a very select group of people. I guess in that essence it will be more of a supper club than a pop up restaurant.” Jezebels gives her room to able to compose with different styles and flavours and help her create her own unique signature dish.

The concept of fusion is a constant theme with Jezebel´s menu. Prior dinners have included Caribbean with a Southern twist featuring Crab Mousse, sweet potato linguine and coca mustard with summer vegetables.

September´s club menu entitled “My Provencal style dinner” features such delights as Tomato Tarte Tatin pistou, rucula, tomate sorbet, Rabbit 3 Ways made as lavender deep fried, country sausage, pancetta wrapped loin. Not only is the food concept fused, every plate features a wine pairing. “I have a clear vision of my style and what I want to bring to Barcelona. I see this city changing before my eyes and I am really excited about the possibilities” says Kathleen.

The supper club concept is brought to a whole new level with Jezebels. Every month a new menu with a new idea constantly renewing itself bringing new flavours and new experiences to a city already well known its for gastromic prowess. Kathleen previously lived and worked in Los Angeles as an actress and model, she worked as a chef in between jobs before moving to Barcelona. “I needed to explore and I thought Catalonia is doing great things with food”

The very concept of Jezebel’s supper club guarantees it’s success. The intrepid diner constantly seeks out something new much like an explorer in the world of culinary science and gastomic awareness. Supper clubs are on the frontier of culinary exploration and nowhere else is this as true as Jezebels clandestine dining experience
