On the occasion of the celebration of World Water Day, there was a new application for smartphones world recipes “We Eat Water“. Prominent personalities such as Carlos Abellan, Josep Abril or Santi Millán assist the We Are Water Foundation to show the advantages of this new application.
This coincides with the campaign, promoted by the United Nations, which has the slogan “We eat more water we drink.” with this App which calculates the amount of water needed to produce a food, its water footprint.
This new mobile application contains recipes from around the world, together with its water footprint, which is the sum of all the water necessary not only to cook the recipes, but also all the water has been used to produce the food .
The application “Water We Eat“ is a symbolic price of 0.79 euros. The money collected will fund four projects to help the foundation set in motion during the 2012, along with other organizations such as Unicef, Foundation Vicente Ferrer, Oxfam and Education Without Borders.
According to Xavier Torras, director of the Foundation, “Most of the water usage we do human beings is what comes through food. Each day a person can drink about 2 liters of water, but to produce a kilo of rice would have needed 2,450 liters of water”.
