The cupcake, named The Golden Phoenix, is only available at The Dubai Mall outlet of the boutique café and is valued at $1,010 (Dh3,700) and presented on a 24-carat gold Empire Morning Cake Stand with Cloch by Villari. The concept was created by Shafeena Yusuff Ali, daughter of Yusuff Ali MA, Chairman of the EMKE group, which also owns and operated the Lulu chain of hypermarkets and supermarkets in the Gulf region. The Dubai Mall outlet of the café officially opened on June 28, 2012, marking the one-year anniversary of Bloomsbury’s, which first opened its doors to food lovers last year in Abu Dhabi.

According to the media statement issued by the café, the unveiling of The Golden Phoenix presentation on Thursday evening exceeded Dh100,000 ($28,000). Curiosity about the world’s most expensive ‘edible’ cupcake started at the beginning of June when Shafeena Yusuff Ali announced that she wanted to attempt the daring task.

The ingredients are; doves organic flour from the United Kingdom, rachels organic butter from the United Kingdom, premieum amedie procelena cocao from Italy, gold Ugandan high quality vanilla beans and last but definetly not leas 23 carat edible gold sheet. For added decadence, the costly cupcake is presented on a 24-carat gold stand, alongside a golden spoon, topped with chocolate icing, strawberries dipped in edible gold, and various other adornments.

Vinay Lall, General Manager of Tablez Food Company, said: “We are really excited to have unveiled the most expensive ‘edible‘ cupcake in the world. We have seen people attempt the most expensive cupcakes before, however those cupcakes are not edible as they are incrusted with diamonds and other components.”

The cupcake is available to order from the Dubai Mall’s Bloomsbury’s outlet. Each order is expected to take 48 hours to complete.
