Lifestyle: Diamond in the rough

Judging by its place in the world now, you probably wouldn’t believe me. The city has achieved in just a few short decades what London, Paris, and New York needed centuries for. And so, for this reason, luxury vendors from around the world are flooding to the shimmering Mecca of decadence to take part in the 2013 World Luxury Expo.

Dubai is just one stop on World Luxury Expo’s Middle Eastern tour; Riyadh and Doha are on the itinerary also. But in Dubai, the chosen setting just so happens to be, what is arguably, the world’s most luxurious hotel. The Burj Al Arab will be transformed into a veritable museum featuring hundreds of items within roughly twenty seven categories. Some examples of these categories are cigars, cars, boats, art, equestrian products, and entertainment, just to name a few. But the Expo is not limited to just everyday products for one’s palatial home. On display are the different rooms and suites of the Burj Al Arab hotel. The rooms have been purposed for patrons who want a closer, more private, look at whatever takes their fancy. But also, one can safely assume that the suites are, in themselves, exhibits also. After all, why put on a show in a hotel without making the hotel the show also?

The main floor of the exhibits will be found inside one of the Burj’s most architecturally complex venues. The Grand Pavilion is a double volume room bespeckled with a gleaming shine that is not found anywhere else in the hotel, and heavily draped with purple, the colour of royalty. Guests will have a chance to peruse the static displays in the pavilion while being surrounded by a Grecian style aesthetic. And finally, not to be outdone, banquets will be held in the Al Falak room. The two tier room is designed to look like a Viennese Opera house, displaying the splendour and luxury of the old Hapsburg royal family of Austria, a family who would have marvelled at the grandeur of the Burj.

The Dubai event is going to be held from 15th January to the 17th 2013 to an invitation only patronage. So if you are lucky enough to be invited, try your best not to let your jaw hit the ground too hard.
