Known for creating magnificent writing instruments, Faber Castell has now given us the world’s most expensive pencil as a part of their Graf von Faber Castell series. The series consists of stunning fountain pens, rollerball pens, regular and mechanical pencils, all designed by Baron Lothar von Faber’s great grandson.
Totally extravagant, Faber Castell’s premier series includes ivory, gold, resin, and ebony within the construction of these writing instruments. And if the world’s most expensive pencil isn’t quite right for you, the collection also includes the world’s smallest pencil and the world’s oldest surviving woodcase pencil.
As for the world’s most expensive pencil, or rather, the Perfect Pencil, it comes in at a $12,800 price tag, consists of 240 year old olive wood, and is able to be divided into 99 individual parts. Manufacturing of the Perfect Pencil began in 2001, with exclusive editions being rolled out ever since.
For each pencil there is an extender as well as an end piece, both of which are cast in white gold palladium. Both a smart sharpener and an inbuilt eraser can be found on the extender, made of 18 carat white gold.
Removing the pencil lid, you will find three diamonds ensconced under the count’s coat of arms. Faber Castell employs these diamonds to symbolize the mark of the third millennium, and also provides a certificate of authenticity.
