It’s not every day that Delhi plays host to one of fashion’s most flamboyant superstars. So when the irrepressible Roberto Cavalli came to town a few days ago, the city’s glitterati was only too happy to meet him. With a packed audience before him on the ground floor of the DLF Emporio, Vasant Kunj, Cavalli inaugurated India’s first Cavalli Café (modelled on the historical Cavalli Caffe Giacosa in Florence, Italy), and also formally launched the first Roberto Cavalli flagship store, that had opened its doors at DLF Emporio this August. It’s an honour to be here. The colour of your land is part of my inspiration. For me, to have a store here, to take care of your beauty, is a pleasure, he said.

Brought to India by Infinite Luxury Brands Private Limited, promoted by entrepreneur Sahiba Narang, finance expert Rahul Kapoor’s, and designer Manav Gangwani, the 400 sq ft boutique is an extension of Cavalli’s personality. The décor of the store resembles my house; an artisan from Florence has tried to recreate my world, said Cavalli. The boutique houses women’s and men’s prêt-a-porter collections, with lots of eyewear (a favourite of the designer), bags, shoes, watches, and children’s wear. With his penchant for bling, animal and jungle motifs, the artist-turned-designer said that his creations were an ode to beautiful women everywhere. I love female power, to always be able to create something special and sexy, he said.

The Cavalli Café opposite the store offers shoppers a chance to sample classic Italian dishes, along with Cavalli red wine, Cavalli Italian vodka, and grappa. There are also chocolates and chocolate gift boxes on offer.

In the evening, the party continued, with Bollywood stars Sonam Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut, Jaqueline Fernandez, Zayed Khan, Sushmita Sen, and Raveena Tandon, all dressed head to toe in Cavalli.
