Welcome to Le City Deluxe USA
Vol 1 · SPRING 2013
My name is Mary Marr and it is my supreme pleasure to introduce this magazine and brand to you. Making the decision to launch Le City Deluxe in the USA fills me with excitement. As a woman who insists upon an exemplary lifestyle, I am infinitely aware of how important it is to maintain élan. With this publication, we are set to illuminate the joie de vivre of living with passion, finesse and extravagance.
Le City Deluxe saw its genesis in Barcelona, where it acted as a handbook of sorts that garnered and disseminated the highlights concerning affluence as lived in the metropolis. We chose South Florida as our launch pad in the US as it offers a unique intersection and exchange between art, business and culture with Miami as the resplendent cosmopolitan diamond within it. My own personal love affair with this state began many years ago, a family vacation originally brought me here and I was instantly enamoured. Like all great loves, the journey is one of constant renewal. Le City Deluxe is here to introduce our readers to all things luxury, allowing our readers to glide through the surrounding environs with sophistication and glamour.
Art, business, craftsmanship and culture continually go hand in hand with luxury. Moreover, these conceits form the foundation that luxury is built and traded upon. The landscape of Le City Deluxe consists of a world where quintessential style and finesse is traversed by art and consolidated with exemplary craftsmanship.
This issue’s themes of art, business, craftsmanship and culture coincide directly with all that The Andy Warhol Museum represents. Our cover image belongs to the museum and is from Andy Warhol’s 1986 Self Portrait series that was completed the year before his death and is widely considered his most significant. The purple version from this series sold at Sotheby’s in New York for a record $32.6 million, making it the highest paid self-portrait from Warhol. When I met with the Warhol Museum director, Eric Shiner, during Art Basel Miami Beach, it became clear not only what an amazing individual Eric was, but also how Warhol as an idea is symbolic of Miami itself, hence why he is gracing this issue’s cover. Warhol’s studio, The Factory, was renowned for bringing together a diverse mix of people from Hollywood celebrities to wealthy patrons, bohemian street people to distinguished intellectuals. This same eclecticism is witnessed in the citizens and denizens of Miami, Southern Florida and America as a whole. Miami has come to represent the Shangri-la of the Western Hemisphere, and as the populace continues to flock here, allow Le City Deluxe to guide you, inform you, entertain you and charm you with our unique blend of panache, elegance and ingenuity.
