This is a golden year for some of the veterans of the fashion world. While the likes of Ashish N Soni and JJ Vallaya celebrated 20 years of being in the industry, Suneet Varma marked his 25th. Celebrations have ensued all season, and exhibitions showcased collections reminiscing the last two decades of flamboyance.
Ashish N Soni celebrated his two decades in the industry by holding a three-week long retrospective exhibition this past February called ABSOLUT Soni at New Delhis Aman Resort. I almost feel like this is the interval, and the best is yet to come so hopefully, another 20 years are about to start, said the designer. Various mixed media installations, sculptures, audio/visual formats interspersed with couture presented his last twenty years of work in style.
However, the designer strongly believes he didnt get to this milestone just by himself and felt it vital to capture moments from the anniversary celebrations and more importantly honour the collective efforts of all those who have been a part of this journey. Hence, came about the limited edition Absolut Soni magazine. Absolut Soni will give you glimpses of Ashishs career during which he has worked with some of the worlds (and Indias) biggest names in the world of fashion, photography and design. It shares some memorable images as well as personal thoughts.
Ashish N Soni over the years has become a popular Indian face on international ramps, with his collections being showcased in fashion shows across Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Paris and New York. He was the first Indian designer to be invited to New York Fashion Week. He continues to draw the attention of a niche crowd who swear by the quality of his work. FDCI president Sunil Sethi, present during the celebrations, commented, If anyone still wants to know, who makes the best suit in town, you could honestly just name one or two designers and Ashish is one of them. It is perhaps because of his personal ethics to deliver the best and never compromise on quality, that has brought him this far. If a garment is not good enough, it needs to be better. It needs to be better, not next time it needs to be better now.
