ZM&MZ, a new fashion brand, has released its first line of accessories and clothing in Delhi. The brand which came into existence only earlier this year is the brainchild of two French ladies, Zoe Marra & Magali Zakarian (the name of the company is based on the initials of the two women). The products produced have a European touch that was not readily available in the country. Interestingly, ZM&MZ works closely with their ethical manufacturing partner Open Hand, which empowers underprivileged people in India by providing fair wages, training, and contributing to social causes (the company Open Hand works in association with many NGOs in order to provide employment to the underprivileged).
ZM&MZ’s association with Open Hand started during a charitable project in which Magali was closely involved that assisted women rescued from human trafficking to reconstruct their lives by offering them employment at Open Hand. Zoe Marra, co-owner of ZM&MZ gives us one such example,
“One very touching example is Ruth who fell pregnant while working in the red line district. She decided to keep the baby and has been helped out throughout her pregnancy and delivery of her child in a secure “house” with the help of psychologists as well as medical doctors. She has started work at Open Hand last month and is also assisted with some child care during her working hours.” One of the main reasons for producing in India was to give something back to society and particularly to women that have been less fortunate in life.
According to Zoe Marra, their intention is to create simple products with unique features that customers will be able to use in their day to day life as well as travels. Right now they’ve launched with a range of “must have” items such as summery jumpsuits and stylish accessories including bags of different sizes, summer scarves, technology accessories such as iPad/iPhone covers, pouches for day and evening use. “Our plans for enriching our collection include the design of fashionable prints for both the accessories as well as clothing. We also intend to enrich our collection with new products such as swimsuits, footwear and a line for children wear,” says Zoe Marra. She adds that while the quality of their products is no less the top-notch brands, (since all products are created with high-quality natural fibres), they have kept the price range for their products pretty modest – Rs 1800-5000. “We are making a point about offering elegant and fashionable products that don’t cost a fortune! Most clients wish to change their wardrobe frequently without the guilt of not having amortised a big investment made at their last purchase.”
