Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014 took off to a flying start at the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi with the showcase of designers Anupama Dayal and Masaba. While Anupama Dayal’s label Anupamaa is well-known for its use of colour and artistry, Masaba’s label, the House of Masaba, continues to delight with its bold, pop prints, and a love of graphic art.
Sunil Sethi, President, Fashion Design Council of India said of the opening show: “We are delighted that two talented, young designers will be opening the latest season of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014 with their innovative collection.”
Anupama Dayal expressed her excitement by saying, “I feel privileged to open a fashion week as prestigious as WIFW, so thank you FDCI. My collection is called Gulabi’ and I hope it will start the week on a fresh and energetic note.” Her pieces showed her love of hand-printing using wooden blocks based on the designer’s sketches, and traditional needle-craft techniques. There were chanderi saris, dresses, and palazzo pants.
Masaba Gupta experimented with printing, her forte, playing with machine and dot prints in a fun, youthful collection. She put a lot of skirts and long dressed on the ramp, along with shorts and drainpipes. She said, “I am thrilled and honoured to be opening for FDCI at WIFW SS 2014 for the House of Masaba as I look forward to showing my new line in the capital after a long gap.”
