Apparel & Accessories: Lipstick Jungle

It’s hard to forget Masaba Gupta’s debut collection as creative director for Satya Paul at the Wills India Lifestyle Fashion Week in New Delhi, with its play of vibrant colours and smooth textures.

Calling her collection ‘Old Streets and Neon Lights’, Masaba stayed true to the design house’s fun and flirtatious philosophy. The range saw quirky prints such as lipsticks and telephone booths on silks and jerseys, symbolizing the feminine mystique. The young designer repositioned the brand for a younger set of consumers by blending bright neon colours with pastel and basic hues, in Satya Paul’s trademark printing finesse.

Along with the de rigueur saris, the collection also included modern silhouettes in the form of printed maxis, short dresses, and jackets. Gupta also used very subtle embellishments on the soft silks and lycra-infused jerseys. She also introduced the Prism clutch made of canvas, in bold colours. The line also includes a full range of bags, luggage trunks, and stoles in perky pop colours.
