Apparel & Accessories: Royal All The Way

An ethereal set that resembled the inner chambers of a queen’s abode (replete with mirror studded walls and extravagant candelabras), soulful live Sufi music, and models in princess-like avatars is how Ashima-Leena began the second day of the Delhi Couture Week 2012, at the Taj Palace Hotel. The cherry on the cake was the muse and the showstopper, Bollywood legend Sharmila Tagore – the first celluloid star to walk the ramp at this year’s couture week. The actress who has walked the ramp for the designer-duo earlier as well spared no words to express her love for the duo’s work, I absolutely love what they do. Love their work. I like that there is a lot of colour. I was actually telling them backstage what I liked the most and what I thought only these beautiful tall models can wear. My personal favourites for bridal wear would be in tomato reds and pinks. The experience was fun.

The collection titled ‘Raag Rattan’ showcased very intricate bejewelled designs enough to transport the audience to the opulence of royal eras. Perfectly complementing the collection was Zila Khan’s mesmerising voice as she sang soulful numbers like ‘Kesariya Baalam Aavo Re’ and ‘Dama Dam Mast Kalandar’ while models sashayed the ramp in saris, lehangas, long regal jackets (almost skimming the floor) worn with very full skirts. It is nice stimulation for me. For a live concert singer, that is easier than to sing on cues, it’s a different mind-set, but this is wonderful, and that’s why it’s stimulating the singer told us.
