Apparel & Accessories: Work of Art

This year’s Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week saw a vivid slew of muses work their way into the elegant drapery and intricate embroidery of several AW13 collections. An intriguing highlight amidst Punjabi phulkaris and Nevada-inspired psychadelia, was designer Poonam Bhagat’s tribute to Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Nights’.

As part of her AW ’13 line for her label Taika, the designer wove the velvety richness of Van Gogh’s starlit sky into elegant drapes. Long robes, palazzo pants, quilted jackets, and dresses spun of chanderi and tussar sik were showcased on the runway in a multitude of colours, from brilliant peacock blues to burgundies, splashed with burnished gold and bronze to capture Van Gogh’s night sky. Flowing silhouettes emphasized the colour blocking and bronze prints used on the fabrics to portray a peaceful, albeit romantic mood. Flower-patterned ear cuffs, bold neckpieces and oversized earrings designed by Monica Sharma of Atelier Mon gracefully punctuated the collection, rendering the picture complete.
