Art & Culture: Spinning the wheel

Well known potter Anju Kumar recently released a new collection of exquisite sculptures, urns and vases titled the Magic Dust collection. The colours of the pieces range from rustic metallic coppers to the earthy gold and striking hues of fresh beige to electrifying burnt sienna, raw and burnt umber & vermilion.

The life size contemporary vases and urns in the collection are remarkably detailed and draw inspiration from nature. The intricately carved jaali work is most apparent in the flame vases or the illuminated leaf vases.

In a career graph spanning 22 years, Anju Kumar has been created vibrant art from her home studio that transcends the boundaries of the canvas. Along with paintings, she has created sculptures and works of pottery that have been displayed and sold through many exhibitions. Besides decorating homes for who’s who of Delhi, Anju has worked for the Jaypee chain of hotels, The Radisson hotel, The Oberoi group of hotels, Hotel Ibis, The Fortune group of hotels, OVL, Petronet, ONGC, The Jindal University, The Saagar school, to name a few. She has slowly carved a niche for her genre of studio pottery that refurbishes the mundane surface of an earthen pot with all kinds of textures and finishes. An evidence of her pedigree came when she was asked to create 150 planters for the F1 Track in October 2011.
