Furniture designer Gautam Dhawan’s brand – Exhibit-D – recently launched its second collection of furniture pieces for 2012. “There are about 10-12 pieces in the new collection , a mixture of coffee tables, end tables, mirrors, dining and counsel tables,” Dhawan told Le CITY deluxe Delhi.
The contemporary collection is characterised by an assortment of tables, which, besides being functional, (as the studio puts it) are also conversation starters and works of art. The designs are certainly original: elements of nature reflect in pieces like the ‘Lotusdip Mirror’ and the ‘Ivybush’ light installations which bear lotus leaves and flowers, and ivy leaves respectively, which have been carved from brass. “The inspiration for most of the work is the studio’s passion for brass and copper, finding new ways to use these materials, combining other materials with these and so on. We have also worked with mirror work and bone for the first time to create some stunning pieces. The inspiration is to create the perfect home accessory,” elaborated Dhawan.
All the pieces in the collection are hand-crafted and took almost a year to complete. The studio also creates bespoke designs, which, according to Dhawan, gives both the client and the studio an opportunity to create a piece that is truly unique and true to the clients aesthetic.
