Those who appreciate the grandeur of the bygone era and harbour a special love for classic artifacts will love the limited edition sterling silver epergne released by London-based silversmiths – Frazer and Haws. True to the Victorian era designs, this modern-day epergne consists of a large central fruit bowl with four smaller bowls and candle sticks radiating out of the base. Handcrafted from scratch, this one-off piece has been further decorated meticulously with fine engraving and ornate hand cast boughs. Only five pieces of this epergne have been created by Frazer and Haws, and each will cost over a whopping 10 lakh.
London based Frazer and Haws has been creating silverware and jewellery for over 250 years now. In the late 18th century, Empress Marie Antoinette of the Royal Family of Bourbons lived beyond her means and her husband, Emperor Louis XI, was a spendthrift. One day, the Empress was forced to call upon her favourite English silversmith, David Hennell – founder of the House of Hennell (estd. 1736). She asked him to break down her seven-strand diamond and sapphire Bourbons heirloom necklace into small pieces and sell parts of it (after all an Empress also needs money!). This is when Hennell the best known Silversmith in Europe turned into a Goldsmith and jeweller as well. Frazer and Haws is the highly reputed workshop of Hennell, which was opened by John Frazer and Edward Haws in 1869. Frazer & Haws and Hennell of Bond Street have since designed the most exquisite silver collectibles and precious jewellery for over two centuries. Their clientele dates back from Queen Victoria to Cherie Blair in more modern times.
