Divya Kapoor Gurwara, CEO Bridal Asia and restaurateur Ashita Relan recently co-hosted a champagne-filled afternoon party for the city’s chicest ladies at The Royal China, New Delhi, to present Siddartha Tytler’s luxe bridal collection, with Rajasthan-inspired jewellery by Purnima Jhunjhunwala.
The National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi and Fashion Institute of Technology, New York-trained designer, who launched his eponymous label in 2002, is known for his wearable, contemporary silhouettes. For this Bridal Asia 2013 collection, he’s used innovative techniques with traditional dori embroidery, and prints inspired by 16th-century Italian motifs. “For me, this collection was all about going luxe, with rich fabrics. I’ve also used Sicilian lace and lots of sequins by Swarovski,” says Tytler. So bustiers combined with lehengas, and black embellished anarkalis were juxtaposed against pristine lace shifts. One of the afternoon’s pièce de résistance was an ornate dori work lehenga worn by model Sonalika Sahay in burgundy, teal, and khaki. For the boys, there silken kurtas worn with waistcoats. As for the jewellery, it was all inspired by the traditional handiwork of Purnima Jhunjhunwala’s native state of Rajasthan: polki and jadau necklaces and earrings, in diamonds, pearls, and emeralds, reflected a modern avatar, for the bride who wants something different for her big day.
Royal China was abuzz with the chatter of the Capital’s elegant set, with Bela Madan, Devika Sahni, Ramneek Pantal, Tanisha Mohan, Payal Sen, Chandni Nath, Neena Verma, Gunjita Dhawan, Nishi Singh, Ala Madhu, Sujata Assomull Sippy, Amrita Thakur, Payal Gupta Sood, and Dimple Fouzdar in attendance. Former Miss India and supermodel Neha Kapur Nayyar was in town all the way from Los Angeles, where she now lives, to work on her brand-new, yet unnamed project. Tanisha Mohan sported a grey Siddartha Tytler top with Phillip Lim pants, while maverick designer Anand Bhushan cheered his friend and colleague in a Priyadarshini Rao shirt and dark trousers.
The Bridal Asia 2013 exhibition is scheduled to take place on the 5TH, 6TH & 7TH October at The Ashok, New Delhi.
