Gadgets: Music on The Go

Of the nine products launched under the B&O moniker (four were launched last year, while five new additions have been made this year), the BeoPlay A3 built for the iPad specifically, is a particularly seductive piece of equipment for music lovers everywhere. Designed by Copenhagen-based Steffen Schmelling, renowned for his eclectic designs such as the EGO soup spoon, the first of its kind to pour soup from all sides, the A3 resembles an ordinary iPad cover, that can sit unassumingly anywhere in a room. Upon closer examination, the rectangular-shaped device reveals neatly concealed speakers, that play music once it is wirelessly streamed through AirPlay, an Apple application, making it fairly evident that all B&O Play products have a strong association with Apple-inspired devices.

The A3 uses Adaptive Stereo Orientation, an intelligent motion sensor feature that acclimatizes the A3’s speakers to the angle the embedded iPad has been placed in for optimum sound quality. The A3’s battery life lasts for six hours and also charges the iPad. Weighing 1.25 kilos, the Rs 63,500-priced machine boasts a frequency range of 60-15,0000Hz, and contains a single two-inch woofer as well as 31/2-inch tweeters.
