Sparking great culinary excitement in the city, The Leela Palace New Delhi recently introduced one of the worlds best Japanese restaurants, MEGU.
Meaning blessing in Japanese, MEGU is a harmony of the finest and rarest ingredients from around the globe. Presenting modern Japanese cuisine, sushi and Sumibi Aburiyaki a grilling technique using Bincho-Tan, a special charcoal found only near Kyoto and prized for its superior purifying properties MEGUs concept is well-defined as a sophisticated and organic dining experience.
Voted by Fortune magazine as the Rolex of Restaurants in 2006, MEGU brings to its guests the most exceptional experience: outstanding food, brilliant design and excellent service. Both, MEGUs menu and design concept are a blend of traditional and modern Japanese culture, combining authentic as well as avant-garde ingredients to suit every palate. The overall décor is filled with customary Japanese interior accents, complemented by a contemporary ambiance.
In order to serve guests with the most genuine and personalized service, MEGUs ingredients have been meticulously selected by a talented team of chefs over years of research across the United States, Japan, Europe and Canada. Condiments such as salt, soya sauce and varieties of Miso are also specially selected for the MEGU cuisine.
Some of MEGUs international signature dishes include MEGU Oriental Salad, Salmon Tartare, Hamachi Carpaccio, MEGU Original Crispy Asparagus, Crispy Kanzuri Shrimp and MEGU Wagyu Carpaccio. While seafood and several other ingredients are imported from international markets, each dish at MEGU is presented in a specially-designed handcrafted plate or bowl inspired by the dish itself.
The Japanese specialty restaurant also offers an impressive wine list of nearly 400 labels including some of the worlds best labels like Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Richebourg, Petrus, La Tache and Dom Enotheque that perfectly complement the culinary odyssey on offer. In fact, MEGU is the first and the only restaurant to offer sparkling sake, each available by either carafe or bottle. Bringing to the city the concept of sophisticated organic dining, MEGU also serves volcanic, spring and natural mineral water to its guests.
The interior design at MEGU is a journey of the ubiquitous art forms throughout the rich oriental history. The décor with stunning floor-to-ceiling dark-oak wood and lacquered channeled interiors at MEGU has been designed by Design Studio Spin Inc. to form a priceless cocoon. The 800lb Bonsho bell is inspired by the classic handiwork in a Japanese temple. The engraving inside the colossal bell pays homage to the popular Japanese belief that all offerings resonate with reverence and gratification. A tribute to the Buddha in Kamakura, the crystal Buddha poised below the bell is believed to have healing powers.
