Jets & Yachts: Surf and Turf

This mean machine is cutely reminiscent of the aero car used in the futuristic cartoon series, The Jetsons, and has been produced by U.S.-based organization Hammacher Schlemmer, which has has been creating similar one-of-a-kind products for the last 165 years. “This is a prime example of what our customers expect; a technologically advanced item, crafted to the highest possible standards, and not easily found anywhere,” says Fred Berns, general manager. Powered with a 130-hp twin cylinder, and a liquid-cooled gasoline engine (its double 34-litre tanks grant a 260km range), this beautiful craft glides both over land and water, and car soar up to 20 feet in the air achieving a maximum speed of 113 kmph. The durable vinyl-coated nylon skirt of the device is inflated with a 34-inch lift fan that allows it to hover above the ground. Meant to operate in both fresh-and saltwater, it is equipped to handle 30 per cent inclines on surfaces like sand, mud grass, and snow. To keep the weight of the machine light, the hull is made of fiberglass and PVC, which in turn allows the hovercraft to operate in winds up to 40kpmh, and waves of up to six feet. The landing skids are created with Kevlar composites. Priced at $190,000, the hovercraft needs to be registered as a boat, and can carry a maximum of 275 kilos of weight.
