Jets & Yachts: The big catch

Fishing in the new Hydra Sports 4200 SF will be an experience far from the traditional. Launched last year internationally, this mean water baby priced at US $ 395,000, was brought to India by Royal Yachts & Cruisers earlier this year. The boat, which has been a bestseller since its launch, takes about 3-6 months to deliver from the time of placing an order, and is an angler’s dream plus an absolute boy-toy. This does not mean that you cannot take your family out on a nice Sunday outing out to the sea, but Hydra-Sports has always been about hard-core fishing.

Fanatical anglers will find the 4200 SF every bit as equipped and capable as ever. This baby has increased horsepower with four 350-hp Yamaha V8 outboards;which is a massive powerplant for a boat this size. The tackle center and helm area both provide loads of storage for lines, leaders and lures, and the boat can be modified to hold up to 48 fishing rods. Fish storage is taken care of by seven large fish boxes, both in-deck and under forward seating, as well as a Frigid Rigid coffin box with a sun-pad forward of the console. A dry-storage locker forward has indents to fit cast nets, washdown, etc. The 4200 SF boasts a total of 10 tackle-storage drawers, leader and line spool holders, more rod holders and, should you want some added height for better visibility over the water then the factory offers a tower for the hardtop.

The toughness of this boat is evident in its build. Hydra-Sports took the hull from the mould and then chemically bonded it in a massive one-piece stringer system with methacrylate adhesive. The result is a one piece hull and stringer grid system that is not going to fold under the pounding of offshore tournament fishing and assures this boat will take more punishment in tough unseen circumstances than its human occupants. However, this bullet-proof construction makes the boat weigh a hefty 28,000 pounds (12,700 kg). The weight though works to its advantage at rough sea ensuring a smooth ride in stormy weathers. The design of its running surface and with her 23-degree deadrise – just one-degree less than high-performance racing-type boats – makes it fast and smooth in choppy seas. If you’re a sailing and fishing enthusiast, then angle for the 4200 SF: it’ll be the envy of the dock!
