Motoring: The Power of 5

BMW’s recent launch of its four-door sedan, the new BMW 5 series took the Capital by storm on the 10th of October as three distinct design variants, the Luxury Line, the Modern Line, and the M Sport were unveiled for the first time by the German car manufacturer.

Philipp von Sahr, president, BMW Group India claimed that this is the company’s best-selling sixth generation of the BMW 5 series, and indeed the plethora of features that the cars boast, seem to support Von Sahr theory: with prices ranging from Rs46.9 lakh – Rs57.9 lakh (all India ex-showroom), based on the three diesel-driven engines – BMW 530d, 525d, and 520d – top speeds can go up to 250kmph, 243kmph and 231kmph respectively, achieved by the BMW Twin Power Turbo technology.

While the six-cylinder variant roars from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.8 seconds, the four-cylinder models are a couple of seconds behind. When it comes to the exteriors, the nose of the car has been sharpened, and there is a clear upgrade in the bumper and taillights design elements, enhanced by the addition of adaptive LED headlights. BMW has also introduced a ConnectedDrive feature, in addition to its Harman Kardon Surround System and BMW iDrive. What’s most impressive is the company’s emphasis on an environment-friendly drive, with its ECO PRO mode featured as a standard along with Comfort, Sport and Sport+, the latter option being available only in the BMW 525d, and BMW 530d.
