Travel: Atlantis Ahoy!

The Lost City of Atlantis, as per legend, was a beautiful and prosperous island, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, that eventually ended up at the bottom of the sea. This Atlantis is beautiful and prosperous as well, the first entertainment resort destination in the Gulf region, located at the centre of the crescent of The Palm in Dubai, made on an island (that hopefully won’t sink!). Opened in September 2008, the unique ocean-themed resort features a variety of marine and entertainment attractions, as well as 17 hectares of waterscape amusement at Aquaventure Waterpark, all within a 46-hectare site. It is home to one of the largest open-air marine habitats in the world, with over 65,000 marine animals in lagoons and displays including The Lost Chambers Aquarium, a fascinating maze of underwater corridors and passageways providing a journey through ancient Atlantis. Aquaventure features 18 million litres of fresh water used to power thrilling waterslides, a 2.3-kilometre river ride with tidal waves and pools, water rapids and white-water chargers. Dolphin Bay, the dolphin conservation and education habitat, was created to give guests the opportunity to learn more about one of nature’s most graceful mammals. Atlantis, The Palm is also known as the culinary destination in the region with a collection of world-renowned restaurants including Nobu, Ronda Locatelli, and Rostang. The resort also boasts of an impressive collection of luxury boutiques and shops as well as extensive meeting and convention facilities.

To make this summer a fabulous one, Atlantis offers fun-filled activities and gastronomic delights, from 1 May to 27 September 2013, with rooms starting at AED 1,125/- per room per night. Guests staying at the resort will be allowed complimentary access to a wide range of attractions around the resort, including the Aquaventure Waterpark and The Lost Chambers Aquarium, as well as preferential rates to swim with dolphins in Dolphin Bay. On World Ocean Day on 7 June, The Lost Chambers is hosting a Dr Seuss-themed Family Fun Day with marine animals educational experiences, colourful face-painting, exciting games, and thrilling competitions. Parents will be happy to introduce their children to the variety of fun-filled activities on offer including exciting summer camps, a special visit by SpongeBob SquarePants, and Patrick Star and family fun days at The Lost Chambers Aquarium. And while the children go frolic, mums and dads can resort to a multitude of experiences available at Atlantis, including special treatments at ShuiQi Spa, and treat themselves to fabulous menus specially created by three world-renowned celebrity chef restaurants.

A very helpful guide (if you have made up your mind to go there) would be to download the ‘Atlantis The Palm’ mobile and tablet-based app, which is an informational in-resort guide and application covering the entire hotel. All the tools are there for you to be able to plan your time at Atlantis, no matter how long or short your stay. The ‘Atlantis The Palm’ app includes viewing and booking rooms, restaurant reservations and day-visitation activities including event tickets with real-time pricing and promotions.
