Deco: "An environment can change with flowers"

“For me the hotel is like and the flowers under his painting” tells Donna Stain. This Australian based in Barcelona has seven years taking care of the floral decoration of the Hotel Arts. A perfect combination for a spectacular luxury hotel with an exquisite floral decoration that gives life to every corner.

Born in Adelaide, Australia, and grew up among the flowers of the garden of his home. “My mother loved flowers, he was always helping in the garden, showed me the colors, the leaves, the types of flowers and had many hydrangeas.” And that’s when at age 17 his parents gave him a course at a florist flower of his people, “the kind of decor was very traditional.’s Okay because then you can start breaking the rules.” Then followed his long career in London where he worked with a renowned florist Jane Packer, who later asked if he wanted to build a school in New York Terence Conran. There he met the then director of the Hotel Arts, Victor Clavell, “I offered to work in Barcelona for a year and I’ve been seven.”

Every Thursday the floral decoration of the Hotel Arts is renewed and Donna has to pay off their creativity, “many hotels have flowers, but this hotel is more important. An environment can change with flowers, then people will always see something different.” From Holland and truck arrive at least 20 boxes of 50 inches each with the expected order of the designer, “I really enjoy the season of hydrangeas, the colors, tones, textures, you can fill a vase economically. Although my favorite flower is the poppy, is fragile and lasts longer. ” And Donna dominates perfectly the language of color, one of his greatest sources of inspiration, “sometimes when I look in the windows of a clothing store a color scheme I like, I put my heart and the experience I have to play with those colors in my creations. “

Guests often ask how to make a floral installation at home like they have seen or if the same designer can give them some kind, “I always say you do not need very complicated to arrange, my style is simple, and is what can be found at the Arts and the workshops we do from September. ” And now, you can enjoy the extensive knowledge and know-how in workshops organized from the hotel, in which participants are introduced to the art of floral decoration to develop their own creations and take them home. “The dates coincide more or less with the seasons. I chose the topics based on what I have around. For the last workshop I thought, ‘Barcelona? Summer, beach and terraces. If I was in Russia that had adapted to the next “and so on 9 June the second workshop was held under the name” sun and beach “in which participants were inspired by the Mediterranean sun and sea. He will be joined “Fall Colors” on October 6, which will be drawn centerpieces with reminiscences, and “Christmas Ideas” on 17 November to brighten the home and make our own gifts for family and friends.

In addition to the floral decoration of the Hotel Arts, also created for different events and weddings, “is a different decor, just for one night I can think of different ideas and I must adapt to the request. Then I have days to organize myself and express other things different than I do in the hotel “. The activity that plays with care and dedication through which he expresses his art does not close the door to other possible collaborations, “I have wanted to do a show with my creations, when you’re doing something with your hands, creativity and mind, want to express in different places, although I am very satisfied with the work at the Hotel Arts. “

After seven years living in Barcelona, admits that the consumption of flowers is different from his hometown of Adelaide, “there is the custom to go every Sunday to buy a newspaper and fresh flowers and open. I keep doing it, but buy them when they are closed because I can see life, personality and the way of the flower. ” As we bid farewell to this beloved designer, it seems that we are waving flowers, “for me it is important that people see that there is life in them.”
