Fashion: 2013 MET Gala Fashion

BY ERIKA ROMERO

Every year the Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds the MET Gala or MET Ball, famously known as fashion’s greatest red carpet moment of the year. Last night, designers and celebrities headed to the MET Ball, in what turned out to be a beautiful blast-from-the-past event. From mohawks to spikes, no one knew what appearances could arise with the theme of the 2013 MET Gala being Punk: Chaos to Couture. The annual MET Ball is the perfect occasion for attendees to take chances and experiment with unique looks. As most celebrities progressed up the famous MET steps in the best mixture of rebel meets couture, some however stepped a little too far in taking risks.

From Anne Hathaway’s platinum blonde debut to Madonna’s full on punk look, the event was bursting with rebels taking risks in the fashion’s biggest red carpet. Anne Hathaway fulfilled the glamorous punk by looking absolutely stunning in vintage Valentino from 1992. She also unveiled her new platinum pixie, which complimented her black gown very well. Another favorite of ours was the beautiful Blake Lively wearing a pale green Gucci Première dress while sparkling in Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

Celebrities in exquisite detailing gowns were Minka Kelly in a gorgeous plum Carolina Herrera gown and Taylor Swift in J. Mendel and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Glistening on the red carpet was Sarah Jessica Parker, as always, in a Giles gown and Philip Treacy headpiece, and Ivanka Trump in Juan Carlos Obando and Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry.

Although she was iconic during the punk era, Madonna, wearing Givenchy Haute by Riccardo Tisci, might have gone a tad too far with her plaid suit jacket, fishnet tights, and an insane amount of chains. Another star covered in fishnet was Miley Cyrus in Marc Jacobs and rocking outgrown roots with a spiked up pixie. All fashion connoisseurs will always remember the looks from the 2013 MET Gala.

The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibit will run from May 9 to August 14.
