Fashion: An apple a day keeps the doctor away

The fabled Swiss brand Chopard has appointed the most skilled of its artisans to manufacture this piece. It is reportedly part of the 65 piece Red Carpet collection designed by Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s artistic director and co-president.

The Apple ring is wearable at cocktail parties, backed up by exquisite manufacture and a huge deal of bling. Having taken 250 hours of intricate and skillful craft, a total of 238 brown diamonds, weighing 1,704 carats, and 773 tsavorites, totaling 55.47 carats were encrusted on 56.45 grams of white gold.

Chopard is a Swiss-based luxury watch, jewellery, and accessories company founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard at the age of 24. Chopard initially concentrated on developing precise pocket watches and chronometers based upon innovative ideas. Chopard is regarded as a manufacture, in other words their watches and movements are mostly made in-house rather than using the base movements (ebauches) of other manufacturers. After modest beginnings, the company experienced a decline that lasted until 1963, when it was bought up by Karl Scheufele III. The Scheufele family, owner of a jewellery and watchmaking manufacturing company in Pforzheim brought their knowlege and talents to Chopard. Under new owners, Chopard established itself in the 19th century as a benchmark in the field of precision luxury watches and jewelry.

The Red Collection by Chopard is a collection specially made every year for The Cannes film festival. The partnership between Chopard and the Cannes Film Festival has started in 1998 when Caroline Scheufele and the team of Chopard master craftsmen have redesigned the film festival’s award – The Golden Palm award. It was initiated by the meeting between Caroline Scheufele, Chopard Co-President, and Pierre Viot, President of the festival. By Viot’s request, Mrs. Scheufele with the team of Chopard master craftsmen redesigned the Golden palm award. The Palme d’Or redesigned by Chopard was unveiled on May 24, 1998. Chopard has served as official partner of the Festival, and each year it creates new models and events to celebrate movies: jewellery sets for the legendary “mounting the steps” ritual, parties to honour films, a trophy for youthful talents, and the Palme d’Or.
