Miami’s Fashionistas Reveal

Their Must-Have Items

“My hot pink leather motorcycle jacket from Dolce & Gabbana that I wear when riding on the back of my husband Randy’s Harley Davidson.”

“A one-of-a-kind dress that was created in collaboration with artist Carlos Betancourt and designer Luma Guarconi, with custom fabric based on Carlos’ monumental sculpture, Appropriations From El Rio. I love collaborating with artists and designers to create statement pieces -- it’s no fun to look like everyone else in the room!”

Miami, which always had its own self-amused sense of style, is emerging as a global fashion destination. Top cult designers and brands such as Akris, Rick Owens, Charlotte Olympia, Rag & Bone and John Varvatos are taking up residence alongside luxury retail heavyweights. Never before has the question of what to wear posed so many choices. We asked some of Miami’s fiercest fashionistas about their favorite piece right now – the one item they’d grab from their closet in case of a fire, as it were (heaven forbid!), and here’s what they chose:

“My most cherished item is my grandmother’s first Kelly Bag, a gift she gave me this year. She was so ahead of her time, buying the bag on her very first trip to Paris. It is still in the most perfect condition and reminds me of her beauty and amazing fashion sense.”

“Black matte Doc Martens gladiator sandals. They are the perfect for spring to edge up a boxy minimal dress. After acquiring these, I saw that Celine showed Doc Martensinspired shoes at their fall show, wh ich excites me since the clothes are going to follow the vibe.”
