The Restless Man
With over 10 years working in the fashion industry, David Delfín still manages to firmly stay within the collective memory.
With his very personal and recognizable creations, augmented by constant research and forays into new disciplines and media, he has managed to take the brand to the top of the national and international scene. All this, without compromising his clear vision of authenticity, consistency and passion; truly, “Made in Spain”.
How do you present the information so that the public is informed, and still surprised by your collections?
It is true that there is an immediacy with the information on the internet. In fact we were the first Spanish designers to perform catwalks live at New York Fashion Week. In our online store you can order all of our designs. But despite that, there are always new items in the shops that have not been seen before.
WINTER 2012
You were among the first brands to launch an online shop. Do you think this was a good idea?
One of the best decisions we have ever made. Much of our interest and energy is put into it. Thanks to the experience we try to continually improve our online store.
After the color explosion proposed by
KATHARSIS for the 2012 spring / summer
collection, this winter’s collections main theme WILL be black , and white with, in some cases, an almost monochromatic color. Even the newest collections, NOWADAYS, follow this line. Are you more comfortable with this color palette?
More than monochrome, achromatic has always interested me, something that’s between black, white, and color in appearance. I can’t explain it; I always end up attracting a mix of colors.
Projects with Iberostar Hotels, Mercedes Benz or Royal Canin, make us grow and allow us to enjoy a country where design and industry do not necessarily go together.
Emotions are the
engine and the raw
material of our work
How much of your work is guided by reason, and how much of it is intuition?
Depends on the situation, but it is a mix of thoughts, not always rational, but sometimes coming from emotion and intuition.
What prompted you to work so freely with color the way you did in KATHARSIS?
The crisis. Thanks to it, this collection was created. The limitations of the current economic situation led us to this proposal, created from tissue samples (not the medical kind) and color charts provided by our suppliers.
Collaborations have been the norm in the company. Is that in keeping with your maxim “all to do, all to give”?
It’s very interesting because we like to add.
You once said: “When I am in a good mood I build and when I’m in a bad mood I destroy”. Is creating always connected to emotions?
Yes, emotions are the engine and the raw material of our work. That phrase is an interpretation of a text by Louise Bourgeois, one of my favorite artists.
You’re never far from art when presenting various mediums and collaborations. Do you plan on returning to it in a more personal way?
I hope to present an exhibit called “The Fresh Gallery” in 2013. A personal work, but linked to our fashion project group.
Where do you see David Delfín in ten years?
Will he still be the “restless man” we are used to?
I hope to remain interested and curious about life and being surrounded by, and working together with some much beloved people
